Bhagavad Gita The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important spiritual books ever written. It is the sixth chapter of the Mahabharata which is India's vast national epic. The Mahabharata is a long story about the conflict between good and evil. The Bhagavad Gita is a textbook for spiritual practices leading to Adepthood and enlightenment. My favorite version of the Bhagavad Gita is a two-volume translation with a complete annotation by Paramahansa Yogananda titled "God Talks with Arjuna: The Bhagavad Gita, Royal Science of God Realization" available from the Self Realization Fellowship or your local bookseller. These two volumes are available through your local bookseller. I recommend this book for the serious Kriya Yoga practitioner. My next three favorite versions of the Bhagavad Gita. Any one of these books will be a welcome addition to your library. Having all three available so you can compare different translations is suggested for the serious student. "The Bhagavad Gita" translated by Eknath Easwaran (ISBN 0-915132-35-4) is published by Nilgiri Press, PO Box 256, Tomales, California 94971. "Bhagavad-Gita" translated and annotated by Swami Prahavananda (ISBN 1-56619-670-1) is published by Barnes & Noble, New York. "Bhagavad Gita" translated by Shri Purohit Swami and annotated by Kendra Crossen Burroughs is published by SkyLight Paths Publishing in their SkyLight Illuminations series. The Bhagavad Gita describes the practices of yoga which have been taught for thousands of years by swamis of Raja, Hatha, Kriya, Kundalini, Mantra, Siddha, Karma, and most other yoga traditions. It is the "bible" of the serious meditation and yoga student. Full disclosure: I must confess to having unintentionally given away the two volumes written by Yoganandaji to recipient or recipients unremembered. The other three books are in my library where I refer to them almost daily. I find all three translations and annotations to be helpful and recommend them to you. [ Reading Home ] |
